How much do you know about the Optical Platform?

Optical platforms, also known as optical breadboards, optical desktops, scientific desktops, and experimental platforms, provide a horizontal and stable tabletop. Generally, the platform requires vibration isolation and other measures to ensure that it is not interfered with by external factors so that scientific experiments can proceed normally. Currently, there are two main categories: active and passive. There are two major categories of passive rubber and air flotation.


The optical platform pursues a level, and the entire table is extremely flat when first processed. After that, the tabletop is placed on the four airbags connected to it to ensure the tabletop is level. The countertop is covered with engineering threaded holes arranged in a square, and optical components can be fixed with these holes and corresponding screws. In this way, when you complete the setup of the optical equipment, the system will basically not change due to external disturbances. Even if the table is pressed, it will automatically return to the level due to the airbag.

The optical platform is functionally divided into fixed and adjustable; passive or active.

Optical platforms are widely used in the fields of optics, electronics, precision machinery manufacturing, metallurgy, aerospace, aviation, navigation, precision chemicals, and non-destructive testing, as well as precision test instruments and key devices for vibration isolation in other machinery industries.

The basic components of the standard optical platform include 1. Top plate; 2. Bottom plate; 3. Finished side surface facing; 4. Side plate; 5. Honeycomb core; 6. Sealed cup, etc.

Steel structure

High-quality platforms and breadboards should have an all-steel structure, including top and bottom plates with a thickness of 5 mm, and precision-machined welded steel honeycomb cores with a thickness of 0.25 mm. The honeycomb core is made by precise laminating tools, and its geometric spacing is ensured by welding flat gaskets. The honeycomb core structure in the platform and breadboard extends from the top plate to the bottom plate without a transition layer in the middle, thus forming a platform product with stronger and stronger thermal stability.


Thermal stability

The key to thermal stability lies in the symmetrical and uniform steel structure in all axial directions. The extensibility and shrinkage of steel parts in the heat exchange process are similar, and they can maintain good flatness during temperature changes. The steel honeycomb core structure extends from the top plate to the bottom plate, and there is no plastic or aluminum leakage management structure in the middle, so it will not reduce the overall rigidity of the platform or introduce a higher coefficient of thermal expansion. We use steel side panels instead of wood panels, which eliminates the environmental instability caused by humidity.

Nowadays, scientific experiments in the scientific community require more and more sophisticated calculations and measurements. Therefore, a device that can be relatively isolated from the external environment and interference is very important when measuring the results of the experiment. Optical platforms capable of fixing various optical components and microscope imaging equipment have also become essential products in scientific research experiments. One of the main goals of the optical platform is to eliminate the relative displacement between any two or more components on the platform.
